AAPL Q1 2008 Results

Apple (AAPL) will be providing a live audio streaming of its Q1 2008 financial results via conference call on Tuesday, January 22, 2008 at 2pm PST/5pm EST. The live audio webcast will be available through Apple’s website located at

The conference call will be available as a continuous rebroadcast beginning Tuesday, January 22 at 5pm PST / 8pm EST through Tuesday, January 29 at 5pm PST / 8pm EST.

“Apple reports earnings next Tuesday, and while the shorts and naysayers continue to beat the uncertainty drum, the company is probably sitting prettier than any other big name in big name tech nowadays. We can harp on recession worries, though Steve Jobs himself tells me that it’s a non-issue for his company,” Jim Goldman writes for CNBC. “Further, he scoffed at my suggestion that Apple is pricing itself out of competition with high-priced Macs, the iPhone and Apple’s iPods since all have seen noticeable price drops and the company, for the first time in its history, offers a broad array of products with a broad range of price tags. It’s a good and fair point.”

Steal This Film II Released

steal this film II

Steal This Film II has finally been released and of course its available for free. The League of Noble Peers announced that the film is intended to ‘bring new people into the leagues of those now prepared to think ‘after intellectual property’, think creatively about the future of distribution, production and creativity’. Steal This Film 1 was a huge success with nearly 3 million downloads and I think the second one will double the amount of downloads. The film features people from the BitTorrent community such as Erik from mininova and Brokep from ThePirateBay.org. Also, Dan Glickman from the MPAA makes a short appearance stating that the MPAA will never be able to stop piracy. You can download the film at the following link below:

Using your PS3 to Crack Passwords

I have been waiting to see when someone was going to do something like this.

Nick Breese, a senior security consultant at Auckland-based Security-assessment.com, has come up with a way to drastically increase the processing capability of cracking passwords, using a PS3.

By implementing common ciphers and hash functions using vector computing, Breese has pushed the current upper limit of 10–15 million cycles per second — in Intel-based architecture — up to 1.4 billion cycles per second.

Breese, who has been working on the project, called “Crackstation”, for the past six months, used the Sony PlayStation 3 gaming console for his break-through research. PS3’s Cell Broadband Engine technology was created by IBM, Toshiba and Sony. The companies collaborated to create the CBE, commonly known as Cell, processor, which consists of one scalar processor and eight vector processors.
